Job Description:

Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity and normally cares for around 14,000 dogs across its network of 21 rehoming centres in the UK and one in Dublin. Dogs Trust has a non-destruction policy and will never put a healthy dog to sleep.

Job Responsibilities:

This position for an apprentice coach with Dogs Trust Dog School requires applicants to complete a Customer Service Apprenticeship alongside learning dog training skills in order to be become an APDT accredited dog trainer.  Supported by the Dog School team and training and Development team, apprentices will also be following our in house programme of dog trainer skills, whilst obtaining other knowledge to aid setting up your own dog training business to support your local community of dog owners in the future.  This training will enable apprentices to be able to lead classes within Dog School and support the Head Coach in delivering at least 15 dog training classes per week, with the aim of achieving positive dog ownership and improving dog welfare and behaviour. There is also the responsibility of promoting Dog School in the local area and undertake relevant administration required to run the Dog School in conjunction with the Head Coach.

Job Requirements:

The curriculum for each Dog School class (puppies, adolescents, adult and rescue dogs) has been created by our in-house experts in canine behaviour and is updated regularly as new research enables us to learn more about how dogs and their owners learn. Using only reward-based methodology, the Dog School aim is that each dog leaves the school with the ability to follow basic cues and behave well in many of everyday settings
