Job Description:

Working within our Anglian Waterways Department you will guide, support, and oversee the operations and enforcement of our statutory navigations so that they are safe and enjoyable for the public to use, in line with required legislation and best practice.

Job Responsibilities:

Undertaking a range of activities, you will ensure the efficient and safe operations of our waterway’s sites by routine patrols, either by land or water. Providing a key contact for the provision of boating expertise and knowledge you will also be involved in (but not limited to) enforcement duties, asset inspections, public safety risk assessments and customer engagement. Navigation sites include locks, moorings, and other facilities. There will also be a requirement to support and assist the safe and operational running of South Ferriby Lock along with the 2 part-time lock keepers. The role involves working outside in all weathers. Previous experience is an advantage, but comprehensive training is given.

Job Requirements:

  • Hold a boating qualification (training provided)
  • Experience working in an office and in the field in all weather conditions
  • Excellent communication/influencing skills
  • Provide friendly and efficient advice to customers
  • Carry out boat licence enforcement, which has potential to lead to court prosecutions so will need good understanding of enforcement activities (training provided)
  • Ability to work alone and/or in a team
  • Have good experience/knowledge of water-based activities
  • Be responsible for own health & safety and that of other staff/visitors to sites, ie locks, moorings
  • Must be computer literate and be able to use agency based computer systems
