Job Description:

The Economics Group in the Treasury provide Ministers with analysis and assessment of fast-paced economic developments in the UK economy and advises on their implications for the Government’s economic strategy.  It works with policy teams to factor economic analysis into advice for Ministers on a wide range of polices.  And the Group is a leading member of the UK macroeconomic community, collaborating with the Bank, OBR and academia on shared topics of interest, liaising with international organisations in their surveillance of the UK economy and supporting the economic and social research professions across government departments.

Job Responsibilities:

We prepare regular economic updates to the Chancellor and to the Prime Minister and provide in-depth analysis of GDP and inflation data to assess the near-term prospects for the economy and the cost of living. We work with the Office for National Statistics on their strategy for economic statistics. The team oversees the UK’s sovereign rating and manage the regular IMF and OECD surveillance of the UK economy, it also designs and delivers the strategy for the G20 Framework Working Group working – the expert macroeconomic forum at the G20. Working in MCS provides an excellent opportunity to lead and contribute to economic advice and analysis on topical issues that affect people across the whole of the UK.
